Mig Carbide
Vibratory Feeder Assembly
This is a turnkey system for delivering all grades of carbide chips to a hand-held, semi-automatic MIG (GMAW) gun (not included).

The MIG Carbide System of hardfacing deposits a wear resistant weld overlay onto parts that are subject to highly abrasive wear.  Examples of these applications include: shredding hammers and knives, bulldozer cutting edges, bucket teeth, etc.  Test reports from the field indicate a 200-800% increase in part life over traditional hardfacing alloys and methods.  The success of the MIG Carbide System is due to the structure of the weld overlay it produces.  During the welding operation the carbide particles are injected into the molten weld puddle without going through welding arc.  These particles do not dissolve in the weld like they normally do with traditional forms of hardfacing.  These undissolved  carbides provide the best form of wear protection possible.

To achieve the optimum wear protection, the carbide particles must have a hard weld matrix. such as Postalloy PS 98 or Postalloy PS 164 surrounding them.  If a mild steel wire is used as a weld matrix, the areas next to the particle wear away quickly and the carbide particles fall out.  When a hard weld matrix is used, the weld matrix encapsulates the carbide particles and holds them in place for the longest lasting wear protection.  Postalloy PS 98 and PS 164 are very popular to use as weld matrixes.

Included in the system are the following:

Vibratory feeder assembly with remote control
Carbide Hopper
5 (Five) feet of .625" I.D. drop hose
1 (One) aluminum metering funnel
4" Stainless steel metering tube
6" Stainless steel guide tube w/clamp for MIG gun mounting (MIG gun not included)
115 VAC line cable with three-pronged plug
Current sensing reed with cable
All screws and nuts for assembly
Control functions and over-all description of system:

Power is supplied to this system via 115VAC (1 Amp fuse) 60 cycle line cable with three-pronged plug.  An optional 230 VAC 50/60 cycle system is available.  A red light indicates when the unit is on.

Automatic Mode:  A magnetic current-sensing relay cable with a reed switch assembly is used to provide an automatic start signal for semi-automatic, hand-held operation.  When the function switch is in the automatic mode (up position), the start signal comes from the magnetic reed attached to one of the weld cables. Important:  The magnetic reed must be mounted 90 degrees across either weld cable with the flat side against the cable.  Do not mount magnetic reed parallel with the cable.
Manual Mode:
When the function switch is in the manual mode (down position), the feeder is on continuously.
Carbide Feed Rate:

The carbide feed rate is controlled by a single-turn control pot, mounted on the cover panel.
Mounting:
Use existing studs to mount unit on your mount plate.
Carbide Feed:
The advantage of this trough-fed system is that it can accurately meter any size carbide granule, pellet or particle without the need to add any new system component or adjust any component of the system other than the speed pot.  The feed-rate allows for a wide range of feed rates with a simple turn of the dial while the unit is in full
operation.  There is no need to stop in order to make and test mechanical adjustment.
