Cobalt and Nickel Base Alloys

Use cobalt and nickel base alloys for applications involving oxidation, corrosion, metal-to-metal wear or abrasion at high temperatures.  Cross-checking is a problem when applying cobalt hard surfacing alloys, especially those alloys over 40 Rc.  Preheating to a temperature of 800ºF(427ºC) will eliminate this problem, as will a layer of 309 stainless or Postalloy 2866-FCO.  Another possible solution is to change to Postalloy 2521-SPL, which deposits at 25 Rc and work-hardens up to 45 Rc.
